Fingers Crossed

So as you may or may not know NIN has been nominated for a couple of Grammys this year. Best Rock Instrumental Performance for 34 Ghosts I-IV and Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package also for Ghosts I-IV.

We all know Trent has never been much of a fan. Remember last year's short blurb posted to nin.com? Seems he feels the same this year as he posted on his Twitter account a few hours ago:
"... and of course, I'm NOT going to the fucking Grammys."
But who can blame him? He usually gets snubbed and so far this year, unfortunately, seems to be no exception. Rob Sheridan is currently twittering from the Grammys and we've learned that so far NIN has lost to Radiohead in the Boxed category. Such a shame because Ghosts really is an incredibly lovely set. I still keep my copy protected in the original shipping box and plastic bag it came with from any haphazard spills, pet hair, or other accidents that could ruin it. One of these days when I'm not such a slob or so accident prone, I'll put it on display. Maybe.

Rob has taken it pretty gracefully (considering his previous displays of maturity) responding to someone on Twitter who said he should have won:
"I tend to agree (as objectively as possible), but Radiohead are Grammy darlings this year so that was completely expected."
Trent also weighs in on the loss:
"Ghosts DESTROYS In Rainbows deluxe package. No debate.
And I have to agree with him. I mean just look at them. Radiohead's kinda looks like something you would display on the fridge next to your children's other drawings brought home from school.

Whereas NIN's looks like something you'd actually want to display, perhaps in your living room under protective glass of course (remember I'm spill prone).

I think we still have a while before they get to Best Rock Instrumental Performance. Fingers crossed that NIN gets it or, at the very least, that Metallica doesn't win, although, they are rumored to be the favorites. *eyeroll*

Stay tuned...

Well fuck. NIN didn't win the other category either. It ended up going to "Peaches En Regalia", Frank Zappa. -sigh- Guess there's always next year.

Having been to the Grammys, the worst part isn't the winners, it's the way women are treated like prostitutes. Granted, some females dress slutty, but no reason for men to think they are whores! I could never respect nor like an unevolved sexist man. Which reminds me, why hasn't Trent had any women in his band?

OMG, an Anonymous has actually posted a coherent thought and posed an interesting question? Why *hasn't* Trent had any girls in his band? I don't think he's sexist, but maybe he has some rural Pennsylvania chauvinism re: women's ability to rock out. Maybe he's afraid of being out-divaed in his own band. Maybe he's afraid of spending weeks and months in close proximity to the same woman, resulting in some epic, disastrous love affair where it starts out really hot, but then he winds up having a guitar smashed over his head?

Usually I'm the sort of person to don my feminist hat and get the rage on, but I don't think a lack of women in a band necessarily indicates any kind of chauvinism from the band itself, much as a lack of men in a band isn't necessarily misandry. Were it a case of the band actively avoiding female members it'd be one thing, but it seems a little out of the blue to question the lack of females as though there *is* a deeper meaning to it when there's not really anything to suggest it.

More to the point, I don't think that the problem lies with specific bands so much as the industry at large; women aren't often taken that seriously in music. Generally they're treated as gimmicks or eye-candy (especially in an otherwise all-male band). That's going to dissuade a lot of girls from even trying to get involved with such bands.

There are a lot of female artists that do little to dispell the idea, really (but this could open a whole new can of worms)

It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, ultimately. Women aren't often taken seriously in music, so they become dissuaded from being involved, so women still aren't taken seriously in music, ad infinitum.

And I should clarify myself...I'm only thinking of the possibilities. I'm not suggesting that Trent actually thinks "no gurlz allowed" or something.

Perhaps the majority of women who get involved in rock are in it for the *self*-expression and not just to be performers for someone like Trent who dictates every last thing. After all, even mute D'arcy Wretzky chafed under Billy Corgan's brilliant tyranny...

Also what kind of girl wants to listen to the never-ending poo jokes or be prisoner to tour bus farting contests? Maybe that goes towards Zeemort's observation about girls not being taken seriously in the industry because they're eye candy and girls don't poo, but really, I don't want to hear it from the girls any more than I want to hear about it from the boys.

And I have to admit, I kinda like NIN as an all boys band. I don't know. It just works.

Perhaps Trent has a mad jealous girfriend (who we never hear about) who wouldn't hear of it, or he could be a bit of a whore who would find a female member 'distracting' ?

About the packaging grammy, Radiohead are just beginning to annoy me, I've always given them the benefit of the doubt as everyone raves about them so much I think maybe I'm missing something even though I find Thom Yorke's voice really whiny, when it isn't indinstinct and sounding a bit like someone with learning difficulties.(as in that Videotape youtube thing) But now they're kissing backside to the grammies which makes their whole 'pay what you want' thing sound so much more like a marketing ploy! Shame on them I say

There is this band Arch Enemy that had a male singer and replaced him with a female singer. They are better than ever. But not all girls (or guys) could bring what she brings to the party (great voice, etc). I think it is about having the right person for the job

I love the band Arch Enemy - they're great! DA is so evolved, no wonder he gets all the females and kittens. I thought Trent was one of the founding members of the "He-Man Woman Haters Club". Just call Trent - Spanky!

Okay, I haven't laughed this hard in a while. Check it out.

I think this Grammy win proves that it's a man's world. But with all the crying, are we sure that Trent isn't at least part girl?

Aw, baby, why you gotta be like that?
