Look Who's Back!

It's Robin Finck! And according to nin.com he's back in the NIN lineup. Hooray! Robin's looking good despite being with GnR for the past few years, although the beard makes him look a bit like a mountain goat.

Back in Jan of '05 Trent had this to say about Finck and his **cough, cough, shoddy, cough** replacement:
"Alessandro fit in immediately, but we looked all over for the right guitarist. In retrospect, I believe we were looking for someone to fill Robin's [Finck] shoes. When Aaron walked through the door, he pissed on Robin's shoes and kicked them out the door where they belong — effectively closing a chapter. A great chapter, but one that is in the past. This is a new entity that feels very fresh and vital."
I don't think I'm the only one who is glad that Trent is reopening this chapter. It will be interesting to see what Finck brings to the table after being away for almost 8 years. And I'm happy to say that we should be able to see him in action at Lolla this year. Only one more day until the official lineup release but this leak from the Sun-Times looks promising.

**EDIT**
This year's Lolla confirmation straight from the horse's mouth.

Also announced via the NIN YouTube profile is new band member Rich Fownes who will be taking over the position of bass man. Eerily, he kind of even looks like Jeordie but maybe just a younger version.

I think I'll just refer to him as Jeordie 2.0 from here on out. After briefly skimming his myspace account it seems he has a thing for John Candy and has been plucked from The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster, a gothic rock psychobilly band. The jury is still out on whether or not he'll be a more of less irritating presence than Aaron North. By all means, I hope Jeordie 2.0 brings a little debauchery to the band but I'll be disappointed if he just turns out to be another flying monkey boy like Aaron.

Currently absobring: "Ghost Town" by The Specials.

I love that song - it always reminds me of the bit in 'Father Ted' (an Irish comedy) at the raffle when the DJ forgets all his records and just plays 'Ghost Town' about a million times

Holly Hell. Fink is back and I'm syked. I can't wait for Lolla. My best boy toy always comes in handy when it comes to concerts and festivals. Last year we had a nice time in his private cabana. Hopefully he'll come through again this year.

Last year the show-toppers for me were... Kings of Leon, Juliett and the Licks and TV on the Radio. Pearl jam was a bit disapointing though. It's been a while since their music has seemed valid to me. Even hearing their old stuff was a bit off somehow.

I hope Rage against the machine can live up to their reputaion. I've yet to see them live (missed them at Coachella last year).

The whole Radiohead VS. NIN war is gonna be fun to see live. I wonder if it'll go down like the final battle in the movie 300? (Who's got more fans?)

Back on topic...I love Fink, always have, always will. I loved Aaron too. To me NIN has always been Trent + whoever he decides to hire. I trust in who he chooses to have in his live line-up.

There should be a NIN version of fantasy football... pick the best live line-up and see who wins... it'd never work though.

My pick.... TR (of course0, Alessandro (I can't say anything bad about Charlie; I just feel like Ally fits), Josh Freese (I was torn between him and Chris but I think I chose right), Jeordie (love him... and not in a sickening fan girl way... I just think he's an awesome bassist), Robin (I think it's mainly nostalgia but he is a great guitarist).

Juliette and the Licks was one of the shows I wanted to see the most last year but even so I was still surprised at how much fun they were. She's just insane. But they're one of those bands who are just better live. I bought their CD "Four on the Floor" (had to to get their autographs which was awesome!) but I have barely listened to it. It's not the same without her flailing about like a woman possessed.

I don't understand how anyone could love Aaron. He absolutely annoyed the crap out of me with all the cheerleader high kicks and unnecessary grandstanding with the songs. I know Trent tells his live band to do what they want to mix it up but I'm assuming he still wants it to sound good.

How'd you feel about jeroME as the drummer, FreakyGeek? I was just a few shows shy of getting to see him with the group back in '05 when he dropped out because of his heart condition. Instead we got Alex Carapetis who worked for the tight spot they were in but he's no Josh Freese.

Jeordie may be a good bass player but he just seems so dead on stage. He never moved and would just stare at audience members. Lohner always looked like a lost college frat boy.

If a tree falls in the forest, and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound?

If the fifth comment in five days is directing people's attention elsewhere, is it really hijacking?

Is it weird that I totally think Finck was sexxxy in the Downward Spiral era?

Oh yeah, I'm not dead...again.

Yes.

Wow.

I saw TestAmenT for the first time in 18 years last night at the Key Club in Hollywood and they were amazing.

They played Apocalyptic City

AND

Alone in the Dark.

Awesome.

Look, Trent obviously agrees with me that Robin Finck is sexxxy.

When is Iris' review of the Bill Cosby show gonna be posted? I'm dyin' here!

Iris said...

I haven't been to it yet. I got the dates mixed up and it's in May, not March. I do have a couple other reviews to post but I've been feeling so lazy and -blah- lately.

I'm sorry that I've been too busy to inspire you, Iris.

For those keeping score at home: JR posts, and Iris says, "How high?"

Hey, does anyone around here know anything about astrology?

maise said...

JR, I can draw upon my old knowledge of star signs that I learned when I was 15 trying to convince myself that I was totally compatible with my then horrible crush.

I was going to try to be productive tonight, but I fell asleep at 8. And one of the dogs got into a chocolate bunny. Goddammit.

Cool.

Tell me about "Libra, Scorpio rising".

Hello. This post is likeable, and your blog is very interesting, congratulations :-). I will add in my blogroll =). If possible gives a last there on my blog, it is about the GPS, I hope you enjoy. The address is http://gps-brasil.blogspot.com. A hug.

Yeah, JR, I was never good with the mechanics of astrology...I just know that Scorpio is compatible with Virgo and Pisces, which signaled for me that one of my two big crushes was DESTINED to be my TRUE LOVE.

Stay tuned for a SAUL WILLIAMS review...we're working on it! I swear!
